Umrah, which is an act of devotion and worship, is very important to Muslims all over the world. Millions of Muslim pilgrims do Umrah yearly because they believe in what they do. During Umrah in Makkah, if you have time, you should try to visit some of the holy and revered places. This will make your spiritual journey even more beautiful.
During the Umrah pilgrimage, believers must do three main rituals:
- Tawaf, which is going around the Holy Kaaba in the opposite direction of a clock;
- Sa’i, who walked back and forth seven times between Marwah and Safa Hills;
- Halq, in which the men shave or cut their hair short.
After doing these three things, a pilgrim leaves the sacred state of Ihram, which a Muslim must be in to do the Hajj or Umrah, and finishes the journey to Umrah.
Umrah usually takes only a few hours, even when all the rituals are done. If you have more time in Mecca, the holy city, you can visit some beautiful places. They are peaceful and holy, and they are in Makkah and Madinah, which are both sacred cities.
Best Places to See in Makkah During Umrah
Many places in Makkah and Madinah are worth seeing while in Makkah. Out of the many things to see, here are the 5 most important ones.
- Masjid-Al Haram: Masjid-Al Haram is known as the “Great Mosque of Makkah.” It is built around Makkah’s Kaaba. It is a must-see place during Umrah because Muslims pray to Allah while facing the holy Kaaba from the center of this mosque. This is where people begin the holy journey of Umrah. One of the most spiritual things during Umrah is walking around the Kaaba seven times.
- Jabal al-Nour: Jabal al-Nour is known for a cave called Gar-e-Hira. It is also called “Hill of Illumination” or “Mountain of Light.” According to Islamic texts, this is where the angel Jibreel first told Prophet Muhammad about the holy words of Allah. Because of this, Hira Cave is one of the most important places to see on the Umrah trip.
- Mount Arafat: Mount Arafat, also called Jabal ar-Rahmah or Jabal Arafat, is a well-known place that many Muslims visit during the Hajj pilgrimage. This is where pilgrims pray to Allah and take part in other ceremonies.
- Jannat-Al-Mu’alla: Jannat-al-Mu’alla is one of the most important cemeteries for Muslims. It is where many of Prophet Muhammad’s ancestors and relatives are said to be at peace. It is to the north of Al-Masjid Al-Haram, about a kilometer away. Getting there on foot will take you around 15 minutes. Most people come to this cemetery to honor those who have died.
- Masjid-e-Ayesha: The second-largest mosque in Makkah is Masjid-e-Aisha, also known as Masjid e Tasneem. It is also one of the city’s oldest buildings, making it a must-see during the Umrah pilgrimage. It is close to the holy Kaaba building. Pilgrims can enter the holy state of Ihram here.
Adding these holy places to visit during Umrah to the plan makes the trip to the house of Allah feel more complete.
